What Ghost Story Viewer is, and isn’t

Ghost Story Viewer shows the current stories of public Instagram accounts. You don’t log in, so your account is never involved and can’t appear in anyone’s viewer list.

It does not and cannot show private accounts. It never asks for an Instagram password, and neither should any site like it.

How a lookup works

When you open an account, our server requests that account’s current stories through a data provider and passes them to your browser. The photos and videos themselves load directly from Instagram’s content servers, the same servers the app uses.

Privacy

In short (the full version is in the privacy policy):

• Viewing needs no account. If you choose to sign in with Google, we store your Google account id, name, email address and profile picture, plus the list of public accounts you add to your watchlist. Nothing else, and never your password. Signing out ends the session.
• We keep a lookup’s result for a few minutes so repeated visits are fast. We don’t store stories beyond that.
• To stop abuse, we count lookups per IP address for a few minutes. That counter lives in memory and isn’t saved.
• Free pages show ads from Adsterra, a third-party ad network, which may set cookies and see your IP address to choose and count ads. In the EU, UK and Switzerland we ask first, and no ad code loads unless you accept; you can change your choice any time with “Ad cookie settings” at the bottom of each page. Each ad runs in an isolated frame that can’t read this site, your account or what you look up. Pro has no ads.
• Because media loads from Instagram’s servers, your browser connects to them and they can see your IP address, as with any embedded image. Our pages tell your browser not to send them which page you were on.

Install it as an app

Ghost Story Viewer works like an app on your phone, with no app store needed. On iPhone, open this site in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, tap Install app in the browser menu (or the “Install the app” link at the bottom of this page).

Removing an account

If you own a public account and don’t want its stories shown here, email nesparolini@gmail.com with the username and a way to confirm it’s yours (for example, a direct message from that account). We’ll remove the page and stop fetching the account, usually within two working days. You can also make your account private, which stops it being shown by any site like this one.
