How to hide your Instagram story from someone

You can stop specific people from seeing your stories without blocking or unfollowing them. They aren’t notified; your stories just stop appearing for them.

Hide it from someone in your viewer list

1. Open your story and swipe up to see who viewed it.
2. Tap the three dots next to the person’s name.
3. Choose Hide your story (or similar wording in your app version).

Hide it from anyone, from settings

1. Go to your profile, open the menu, then Settings and privacy.
2. Find Hide story and live (menu names change between app versions).
3. Choose Hide story from and select the people.

You can undo it the same way at any time.

What hiding doesn’t stop

• Other accounts. The person could look from a different account you haven’t hidden it from.
• Viewer websites, if your account is public. Sites like ours don’t log in as that person, so hiding your story from them doesn’t affect it. If you need your stories fully private, make your account private: then only approved followers can see them, and no viewer site can.
• Screenshots taken by people who can still see your story.

Other options

• Close Friends: share a story with a short list only (how it works).
• A private account: the strongest option, as above.
• Blocking: removes someone from everything, not just stories.
