Does Instagram show who viewed your profile?

No. Instagram doesn’t tell anyone who looked at their profile, and there’s no setting that turns it on. You can visit any profile without the owner finding out, unless you interact with it.

What Instagram does show

• Story viewers: each story lists the accounts that watched it (see what the viewer list shows).
• Likes, comments, follows and shares on posts and reels, by name.
• Live video viewers while a live is on.
• A count of profile visits for professional (business or creator) accounts, in their insights. It’s a number, not a list of names.

What about “who viewed my profile” apps?

They can’t know, because Instagram doesn’t share that information with anyone. At best they guess from who likes and comments on your posts most. At worst they ask you to log in with your Instagram password, which hands them your account. Some charge a subscription for invented results.

Things that can give you away

• Liking, commenting or reacting, even by accident with a double tap.
• Watching their story from your account: that does put you in their viewer list.
• Following, or sending a follow request to a private account.

The short version

Looking at a profile is invisible. Watching a story from your account isn’t. For a public account’s stories, watching without logging in keeps you out of the viewer list.
